Anthony Leshan

Anthony is a disputes resolution lawyer with experience in the full spectrum of legal disputes resolution, from arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution to litigation.

He represents clients before Courts and quasi-judicial tribunals including the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal, High Courts, Employment and Labour Relations Courts, Environment and Land Courts, Magistrate Courts, and Arbitral Tribunals amongst others.

For over a decade, Anthony has been a trusted legal advisor, negotiator, trial and appellate lawyer for some of the region’s leading corporates and industry captains, across multiple sectors.

As a Certified Company/Public Secretary with a strong background in corporate governance, he helps corporates manage legal risks and disputes associated with weak governance structures, including amongst others, shareholder disputes, derivative actions, claims against directors, board actions and disputes arising from mergers and acquisitions.

  • Acting for investors and promoters of a prominent insolvent investment fund seeking the setting aside of liquidation orders issued by the High Court of Kenya and a return to administration and restructuring of the fund, to facilitate the repayment of a sum of USD 106 million (KES 14 billion) owed to investors.
  • Acting for a corporate client in a suit against a County Government for KES 392 million (USD 3.3 million) exclusive of interest, arising from an arbitral award.
  • Acting for a corporate client in a suit seeking enforcement in Kenya of a foreign judgment issued by a High Court in South Africa. The judgment sum was USD 600,000 (KES 78 million) exclusive of interest.
  • Successfully acting for a client in a land dispute pertaining to a high value property worth KES 550 million (USD 4.6 million).
  • Acting for clients challenging awards issued by the National Land Commission as compensation for the compulsory acquisition of their land. The claims were for amounts ranging from KES 60 million (USD 503,000) to KES 400 million (USD 3.3 million).
  • Acting for a client convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, securing the quashing of the conviction and sentence, and the client’s release from state custody.
